Excursions and visits
Vienna (included). We visit the home of the former Habsburg Monarchy, and present-day capital of Austria, seeing the splendid Baroque Schönbrunn and Belvedere Palaces, the Ring Boulevard, and the heart of the former vast Habsburg empire, the Imperial Palace. Our optional guided sightseeing tour by coach (included on Silver Service) is also a great introduction to the sights, covering the State Opera House, Parliament and the Ringstrasse along the way.
Budapest (included). ‘The city of spas’ is really two historically independent communities, Buda and Pest, split by the Danube. Buda is built at the foot of two hills – Castle Hill and Gellért Hill. Facing it is Pest, renowned as the city’s commercial and intellectual centre, its landmarks incorporating great avenues and boulevards. Our optional sightseeing tour features the Parliament Buildings, St. Stephen’s Basilica, Heroes’ Square and the huge Citadel.
Bratislava (included). En route to Prague we visit Bratislava, Slovakia’s largest city and capital. Its 2000-year-old history boasts a rich host of surviving monuments that tell of its past under Hungarian rule.
Prague (included). This Gothic masterpiece has played a major role in the development of Central Europe since the Middle Ages, and is widely recognised as one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Our optional guided walking tour captures the best of this beautiful city – known as the ‘golden town’ for its goldtipped towers and church domes –including Wenceslas Square, the famous Astronomical Clock and Charles Bridge.
