Excursions and visits
San Marino (included). On our route to the sea and Grottammare, we are in for a lovely surprise. In the midst of the plains of north-east Italy lies Europe’s oldest republic, the tiny country of San Marino, which although only just over 20 square miles in size, has its own army, stamps and football team. As we approach, marvel at the sight of Monte Titano rising from the plain and crowned with its huge fortress. We spend time in the town of San Marino, the ‘capital’, where you can hunt for tax-free bargains.
Urbino & Pesaro (optional). A day of contrasting delights as we travel inland to the medieval town of Urbino. Here, standing proudly above the town, is Italy’s most beautiful Renaissance Palace, the Palazzo Ducale, dating from the 15th century. Explore the quaint narrow streets and, today, your camera is a must. In the afternoon, to the stylish seaside resort town of Pesaro which has an attractive medieval area, with its museums and churches.
Grottammare (included). Enjoy the golden sandy beach with its blue sea and superb climate. And…. try a stroll along the promenade, Liberty Avenue, and breathe in the scent of the huge green pines lining the sea front. Relax with a gelato and a cappuccino, then explore the alleyways and natural balconies of the medieval town. At other seaside resorts it can be said that tourism is an industry – here it still has a liveable, personalized character. Benvenuti a Grottammare (and enjoy!).
Ascoli Piceno (included). Ascoli Piceno is a place that you can see in a day yet never forget. Join our optional sightseeing tour with a local guide, who will show you around this magnificent town, sharing the stories and history of its towers, squares and monuments.
