Holiday Itinerary
Day 1 UK to Milan - Make your way to your chosen UK airport in time for your flight to Milan. On arrival you will be met and transferred to Hotel Carrilon or similar in Feriolo di Baveno on the shores of Lake Maggiore for our four night stay (3*). (D)
Day 2 Lake Orta - We make our way to nearby Lake Orta, one of Italy’s smallest lakes, with a picture postcard village known locally as Venice without Water’, where narrow cobbled streets run between pastel washed houses and palaces with elaborate wrought iron balconies. (B,D)
Day 3 Borromean Islands - Relax, and enjoy the beauty of Lake Maggiore as we explore the stunning Borromean Islands, set in the centre of the lake. Firstly, we head to ‘Isola Pescatore’ or Fishermans Island, which is home to a quaint village and, as its name suggests, has a history founded in fishing. We then head to the regal Isola Bella with its fine palace and gardens, built by the Borromeo family, who also gave their name to these islands. (B,D)
Day 4 Lake Como - Lake Como is an area of outstanding natural beauty, with a colourful shoreline punctuated by tiny ports and vibrant villages and backed by rugged mountain scenery which falls in to the shimmering waters. We spend the day exploring some of the delightful lakeside villages, and there will be opportunity for those that wish to take a lake cruise and stop in delightful Bellagio set on a peninsular in the centre of the lake. From the water, you may also catch a glimpse of some of the stunning lakeside villas that are hidden from view on shore. (B,D)
Day 5 Lake Maggiore to Lake Iseo - We depart Lake Maggiore today, and head eastwards, and to the shores of Lake Iseo in the Bergamo province. Iseo is a delightful glacial lake, which is often overlooked next to its larger and more illustrious neighbours, but is just as beautiful. Here, we spend three nights at Hotel Continental (3*) in the pleasant town of Loevere, which is home to a lovely lakeside promenade, and a host of small shops and charming cafes. (B,D)
Day 6 Lake Garda - Lake Garda is by far the most Mediterranean of the Italian lakes, and is surrounded by citrus and olive groves. We journey to charming Sirmione, which is set on its own peninsular that juts out from the southern shore of the lake, and is guarded by Scaglieri Castle. The charecteristic old town is largely traffic free making the cobbled streets a pleasure to explore. From Sirmione we head to Desenzano on the western side of the lake, a bustling town with a beautiful port and lake front. (B,D)
Day 7 At Leisure - Enjoy a day at leisure on the shores of Lake Iseo. Soak up the sun, shop for some last minute souveniers, or explore Lake Iseo using the lake’s ferry boats which journey in between the villages. Why not visit Monte Isola, the island in the lake, and also the largest inland lake island in Europe. On the island, the only four wheeled vehicles that are permitted are public service vehicles, keeping the island peaceful and relaxing, and the villages a pleasure to explore. (B,D)
Day 8 Lake Iseo to UK - Transfer from our hotel on Lake Iseo to the airport in time for your flight back to your chosen UK airport, with many happy memories of the stunning Italian lakes. (B)
