Holiday Itinerary
Day 1 UK to N. France From Dover across to Calais, then on to our overnight stop in Northern France. (D)
Day 2 N. France to Lyon We journey through the changing French countryside today, to the beautiful city of Lyon for our overnight stay at the Novotel Lyon Gerland (3*). (B,D)
Day 3 Lyon to Orange Spend some time in the historical city of Lyon this morning before making our way southwards to Provence, and the town of Orange where we will spend the next three nights at the Park Inn Hotel (3*). The Park Inn enjoys a peaceful setting, surrounded by vineyards and yet is only 1.5km to the centre of Orange. The hotel also boasts a wonderful swimming pool, and air conditioning. (B,D)
Day 4 Orange At leisure in the beautiful town of Orange, enjoy some time to explore on your own - browse the shops, stop for a drink at one of the many pavement cafés, or visit the famous Roman amphitheatre. Or why not join our optional excursion to Aix en Provence, the former capital of Provence, and Avignon, the City of Popes and home to the Palais des Papes. (B,D)
Day 5 Nimes, Arles & St Remy today we visit some more of stunning Provence, firstly stopping in the Roman town of Nimes, famous for its wine trade; then on to Arles, which stands on the impressive River Rhone; and lastly to the beautiful town of St Remy en Provence. (B,D)
Day 6 Orange to Montecatini Today we leave Orange behind, and continue our journey in to Italy, to Montecatini. The town of Montecatini boasts 9 spas, wide tree lined avenues, and an old town which can be reached by the funicular railway, and from where you can enjoy wonderful views. We will stay for the next four nights at the Grand Hotel Plaza (4*), situated in the centre of this pleasant spa town. There is a terrace and swimming pool where you can relax and enjoy the Tuscan sun. (B,D)
Day 7 Florence We leave the coach behind today as we travel in to the spectacular city of Florence by train. Picturesquely set on the banks of the River Arno, highlights include the Piazza della Signoria and the Uffizi art gallery, the magnificent Duomo, and the quaint Ponte Vecchio bridge which spans the River Arno. (B,D)
Day 8 Siena & San Gimigano Siena, almost unchanged since the Middle Ages, is home to Italy’s most famous square, the shell shaped Il Campo. Then on to the beautiful hilltop town of San Gimigano, which enjoys wonderful views over the Tuscan countryside. (B,D)
Day 9 Montecatini Day to relax in Montecatini, or why not join the optional excursion to Pisa and Lucca. In Pisa, the leaning tower is one of Italy’s most recognisable monuments. Lucca, birthplace of Italy’s most famous composer Puccini, is a city of great beauty and atmosphere, and less hectic than some of its more illustrious neighbours. (B,D)
Day 10 Montecatini to Lake Lucerne We depart Tuscany today and head northwards once more for our overnight stop on the shores of Lake Lucerne. We stay at the Hotel Hertenstein in Weggis (3*). (B,D)
Day 11 Lake Lucerne to N. France Passing from Switzerland in to France, we continue northwards for our overnight stop. (B,D)
Day 12 N. France to UK After breakfast we continue to Calais for the ferry to Dover, and then home. (B)
