Holiday itinerary
Day 1 UK to Milan - Fly to Milan and transfer to your hotel for free time. Dinner is not included tonight, so why not dine at your leisure in the hotel or sample one of the local eateries?
Day 2 Milan to Därligen - Leaving Milan we travel through Switzerland’s Ticino canton and on to Lucerne. There’s time for sightseeing and an optional cruise before we journey over the Brünigpass to Därligen on Lake Thun, a delightful village only 5km from Interlaken. Our hotel for the next three nights is the friendly Hotel du Lac or similar (3*).
Day 3 Lake Thun & Brienz - A scenic excursion around Lakes Thun and Brienz - we see woodcarvers at work in Brienz as well as having time in Spiez and Thun, where you can enjoy a stroll through the quaint medieval centre.
Day 4 Interlaken - full day for you to enjoy Interlaken, at the foot of the mighty Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains. Or perhaps you’ll join the optional train ride to the Jungfrau, ‘The Top of Europe’.
Day 5 The Glacier Express - A day of scenic delights today as we enjoy a splendid included excursion on board the famous Glacier Express, the World’s slowest ‘express’ train! Enjoy breathtaking scenery as a steep zig-zag ascent takes us to the 6,700 feet of the Oberalp Pass. We descend to Distentis and then traverse the spectacular Upper Rhine Gorge to Tiefencastel. We disembark the train here and check in to the friendly Albula & Julier Hotel (3*), where we stay for the next three nights.
Day 6 St Moritz & the Bernina Express - Two highlights in one! We visit the glitzy resort of St Moritz, renowned for its chic sophistication and fantastic setting, and ride on the Bernina Express into Italy. The Bernina Express is one of Switzerland’s most dramatic rail journeys, featuring a 70% gradient, making it one of the steepest non-rack railways in the world. Bold viaducts and romantic valleys, glaciers and cliffs almost close enough to touch; it really is a great experience! We then return to Tiefencastel for dinner.
Day 7 Klosters & Chur - A day of contrasts today. We visit Klosters, the ski resort favoured by our own Royal Family and Chur, one of the oldest towns in Switzerland.
Day 8 Tiefencastel to Milan - We depart Tiefencastel this morning and return through Switzerland’s Italian speaking Ticino region, pausing for time at leisure in the chic lakeside resort of Lugano before crossing the Italian border. We continue to our hotel in Milan for our final overnight stay.
Day 9 Milan to UK - Enjoy time at leisure in Milan until your transfer to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
