Holiday itinerary
Day 1 UK to Northern France - Dover, Calais, then on to our overnight hotel in the Reims area of Northern France.
Day 2 Northern France to Lake Lucerne - Travelling into Switzerland for a night on the shores of Lake Lucerne.
Day 3 Lake Lucerne to Montecatini - We take a scenic drive into Italy and through the St Bernard Tunnel to the country’s leading spa resort for a two-night stay at the Grand Hotel Plaza 4*.
Day 4 Montecatini - A chance to relax and enjoy a day in Montecatini, which boasts nine spas, broad leafy avenues and a funicular up to the old town, from where you can enjoy spectacular views. A full day optional excursion to Pisa and Lucca, two of Tuscany’s main attractions, is offered as an alternative.
Day 5 Montecatini to Rome - In the morning we travel to the wonderful city of Rome, to arrive for lunchtime. Free time in the afternoon allows you to explore the city’s main sights, decide between the Vatican, St Peter’s Square, the huge Colosseum, the beautiful Sistine Chapel, the Spanish Steps or the Trevi Fountain, where you can toss in a coin for good luck. An optional Rome by night tour is offered in the evening. Tonight we stay at the Hotel Aris Garden (4*).
Day 6 Rome to Sorrento - Heading south via Pompeii, the town frozen intime when Vesuvius erupted in AD79, an entrance fee to the site is payable locally, and an optional guided walking tour is available. We then drive to the pretty town of Sorrento for three nights at the Tirrenia Hotel, or similar 3*.
Day 7 Sorrento/Capri - Sorrento is undoubtedly one of Italy’s best holiday resorts with its old town, relaxed atmosphere and fantastic shopping! A full day included excursion takes you by boat to the enchanting isle of Capri, with its jagged rocks rising dramatically out of the blue Bay of Naples waters. Also included this evening is a lively Neapolitan folklore Tarantella show.
Day 8 Sorrento - A chance to relax and enjoy this wonderful resort or join our optional excursion for a scenic drive along the Amalfi Coast, a stunning stretch of coastline that provides breathtaking views of magnificent scenery, crystal blue waters, cliffs, coves and pretty villages with colourful buildings that tumble down to the sea below.
Day 9 Sorrento to Orvieto - We head north after breakfast, via Montecassino Abbey and war graves, to the old town of Orvieto, perched atop a volcanic rock and with a funicular to the town centre and its cobbled streets and cathedral. We stay 2 nights at the charming Hotel Oasi dei Discepoli 3*.
Day 10 Orvieto - A chance to explore this charming old town further or join our optional full day excursion to Assisi, birthplace of St Francis, which includes a guided walking tour.
Day 11 Orvieto to Tabiano - Northwards to Parma for an optional guided walking tour of the city, before heading on to Tabiano, a peaceful spa town set in idyllic Umbrian countryside, for a night a the Hotel Ducale 3*.
Day 12 Tabiano to Mulhouse - Continuing north we head to the medieval town of Mulhouse in France for an overnight stay, via the Gothard Pass (weather permitting) and pretty town of Stresa on the shores of Lake Maggiore, where you can join the optional boat trip to the famous Borromean Islands and wine tasting.
Day 13 Mulhouse to Northern France - A drive to Northern France for our final overnight hotel.
Day 14 Northern France to UK - Calais, Dover, then home.
